Movie Conventions Research - The Boogeyman

For the past week the group has been researching various thriller movies, the movie we're researching at the moment is the Boogeyman.

The boogeyman was a very traditional and recent thriller movie using various conventions to thoroughly spook audiences and keep them drawn in. The boogey man utilizes loads of close-up shots on the actors faces to emphasize their acting and draws out fear and suspense in the audience. The boogeyman also uses phenomenal music which had me hiding under the covers. The music was sharp and intense, but also immensely ominous. Lastly the boogeyman used various costumes and props to immerse the audience.

The conventions of this movie that I enjoyed was the intricate use of music, settings and camera angles. The music in this movie captivated the essence of horror and left me terrified while I was watching and made the movie tremendously interesting to watch. The use of various settings in the film also made the film intriguing and prevented it from being dull and bland. The camera angles in the film also drew out the movies best attributes like the acting and the prop sets.

However there a few parts of the film I did not particularly enjoy as much as others. The boogeyman was scary but at times felt predictable and cliche which drew away from the suspense the film created. The boogeyman also was a bit short and a bit too straight forward. This led to the movie being paced in a confusing way. To avoid this in our film I plan to appropriately pace our opening sequence to avoid confusion.
